About kundalini yoga

Kundalini yoga is an old form of yoga that is also called the yoga of consciousness. Yogi Bhajan brought kundalini yoga from India to Canada and the US in 1968. It is a meditative form of yoga that is meant to unite mind, body and soul, and the yoga sets reflect this in their set up.

The word kundalini has several meanings, but refers to the energy in the lower part of the spine. In kundalini yoga as taught by Yogi Bhajan the yoga sets are put together in such a way that the energy is transported from the lower part of the spine and up so that we can release subconscious blocks. This can be highly transformational.

“Kundalini yoga is simply the uncoiling of yourself to find your potential and your vitality and to reach your virtues. There is nothing outside everything is you. You are the storehouse of your totality.”

Yogi Bhajan

The aim is to go within and realise who you are and live authentically as you.

Hence our eyes are closed in the class, and we focus on the mantra sat nam throughout the class and connect it to our breath. We also use specific mudras (hand positions), eye focus, body locks in addition to the physical exercises.

A traditional class takes 1,5 hrs and consists of warm ups, a yoga set, relaxation and a meditation. In addition we also tune in and out before and after class.

What can you expect from kundalini yoga? It is highly individual, but you can expect it to
