Kundaliniyoga

Kundalini yoga is an old form of yoga that is often called the “yoga of consciousness”. Yogi Bhajan brought kundalini yoga from India to the West in 1968. It contains all the eight limbs of yoga; breath, asana, meditation, focus and sound to mention some. Yoga is intended to unite mind, body and soul and as such bring you to union within.
The word kundalini has several meanings. It refers to the energy in the lower part of the spine. In kundalini yoga as taught by Yogi Bhajan the yoga sets are put together in such a way that the energy is transported from the lower part of the spine and upwards so that we can release subconscious blocks. This can be highly transformational.
“Kundalini yoga is simply the uncoiling of yourself to find your potential and your vitality and to reach your virtues. There is nothing outside everything is you. You are the storehouse of your totality.”
Yogi Bhajan
A class usually takes 1,5 hrs and consists of warm ups, a yoga set, relaxation and a meditation. In addition we also tune in and out before and after class. A kundalini yoga class can be very different; sometimes addressing our emotions, other times our physical body or being more meditative. We use specific mudras (hand positions), eye focus, body locks in addition to the physical exercises.

In kundalini yoga we are working to balance the three gunas, five tattvas (elements), seven chakras and ten spiritual bodies.
What can you expect from kundalini yoga? It is highly individual, but you can expect it to:
* strengthen your nervous system
* balance the hormones
* improve circulation and lung capacity
* increase flexibility
* strengthen your intuition
* calm your mind
* reduce anxiety, fear, anger and depression
* improve tolerance towards stress
* increase feeling of joy and inner harmony
